Last month’s walks: Cockburn Law
Attendees: Graham, Alan, and Di
As the weather forecast wasn’t in any way good we almost cancelled the walk altogether but at the last minute decided that as we wanted to do something, the classic route of Elba – Abbey St Bathans – Cockburn Law – The Broch – Elba would be doable before the bad weather set in. Starting a walk 15 minutes away from home has lots of advantages and we set off under blue skies at about 10.00am. Graham and I have climbed Cockburn Law literally hundreds of times but it was a first for Di. We had our usual sit down in the Broch, still in sunshine, and were back home by about 1.30pm ish. Shortly after the weather changed and the forecast wind and rain set in. We definitely got the best of the day.
This month’s walk: Sunday 15th February
After a short ‘committee meeting’ between Myra, David and myself the ‘other half’ of the Ettrick Horseshoe has been selected for February’s walk. The hills available are Ettrick Pen (Graham/Donald), Hopetoun Craig and Wind Fell (Donalds) and possibly two further Donalds, Loch Fell and Wind Knowe. The starting point is at NT189093 on OS Landranger map 79.
Please let me know by Thursday 12th February so that cars can be arranged.
Next month:
March is probably early enough for Munros and will possibly be Sgaith Chuil from Glen Lochay. This one had been planned for October but was changed to the first half of the Ettrick horseshoe due to bad weather. There will also be the option to add on Meall Glas if weather and conditions allow.
June:
Myra is planning her annual rollercoaster for the first week in June this year. Activities will include a bit of island hopping, backpacking down through Jura taking in some or all of ‘the Paps’ then Glencoe at the end of the week where there are Munros, Corbetts and Grahams to bag. See Myra about this one.
Other stuff:
The website is now up and running www.bemac.org Anybody who wants walk photos posted please either e mail them to me or send prints and I will scan them. Perhaps different people might like to write the walk report from time to time to get a different perspective on things.
