Last month’s walk: East Kip, West Kip and Scald Law

Attendees:  Alan and Di

A good day was had in the Pentlands. Long enough to feel that we had had a walk but short enough to fit into a short winter’s day. The hardest part of the whole day was possibly trying to get out of the car park which had a layer of ice a couple of inches thick. Once out we set off in the sunshine and once onto the hill had snow which varied in depth from a couple of inches to a couple of feet. We had hoped for a fine day but the cloud rolled in before we made it to the first summit and stayed there until we were almost back down again so we had precious few views.

Sunday 21st February

Probably still a month too early for Munros so let’s go and bag a Graham some more Donalds just south of Edinburgh in the Moorfoot Hills. The starting point is at Gladhouse Resrvoir. OS map no 73 GR NT306544 and the hills are Blackhope Scar, Bowbeat Hill and Dunreich. An 8.00am start should be early enough so please let me know by Thursday 18th if you want to go.

May 7th to 16th

Myra has once again organised ‘the Rollercoaster’ for the second week in May this year. Full details are to follow but the ‘jist’ of it is as follows:

Friday 7th the bunkhouse at the Kinnloch Hotel at Sheil Bridge. Saturday backpack into Glen Affrick and camp for 2 nights, Sunday bag some remote Glen Affrick Munros, Monday walk out and stay in the bunkhouse again. Tuesday drive to Skye and camp at Camasunary (There will be a boat trip involved but not a RIB like last year and possibly the ‘bad step’). Wednesday backpack through to Sligachan then drive to the Croft bunkhouse at Portnalong where we should have a variety of rooms, cabins and wigwams at our disposal. That will leave 3 full days to tackle the Cullins, take a trip to Rassay, visit Portree or whatever else you fancy. Sunday 16th drive home. See Myra for this one please.

Other stuff:

The website is now up and running www.bemac.org   Anybody who wants walk photos posted please either e mail them to me or send prints and I will scan them. Perhaps different people might like to write the walk report from time to time to get a different perspective on things.
