Last month’s walk: Creag Meagaidh, Stob Poite Coire Ardair and . Carn Liath

Walkers: Alan, David and Harry

1 New Munro for me, 2 for Harry and 3 for David

As there were only two of us travelling up to the highlands Harry kindly suggested that we should drive up on Saturday, spend the night in his cottage at Rannoch and get an early start onto the hill on Sunday morning. I put this suggestion to David and he agreed that it was a good idea, so this monthly walk had a bit extra to it. Unfortunately we got up on Sunday morning with hangovers – How did that happen?

The weather wasn’t bad at all. A bit cold with some low cloud but we soon warmed up when we got boots on and got moving. The path up to the loch in Coire Ardair is a lot better than I remember it from a few years back. Thankfully the slippy railway sleepers over the boggy bits have been by passed. The weather changed a bit and it started raining then it changed to snow when we were struggling through the scree at the ’The Window’. The sky then cleared, the sun came out, it got quite warm and the hangovers finally disappeared.

The good path continued up the slope and over flatter ground until we reached Creag Meagaidh’s summit. It was only 12 o’clock by this time so we had some lunch and decided that we would have enough time to bag the other two Munros and still get back in time to drop Harry off at Bruar where his wife would be waiting for him. We retraced our steps and dropped back down to ‘The Window’ and after a quick climb up the other side bagged Munro no 2.

We now had a fairly gentle walk along the very broad ridge to Munro no 3 as there weren’t any severe ups and downs to contend with. We had some more rain and wind until we started down off Carn Liath when the sun came out and we ended the walk in shirt sleeves

This month’s walk: Sunday 20th July 2008

This month’s walk: Carn Dearg in the Monadh Liath OS Map no 35. Leaving from the starting point at 693998. The Munro book puts it at 3hrs 10 mins to the top so shouldn’t be a massive day. 6.00am departure once again. Please let me know by Thursday 17th July so that cars and drivers can be organised.

The website is now up and running www.bemac.org Anybody who wants walk photos posted please either e mail them to me or send prints and I will scan them. Perhaps different people might like to write the walk report from time to time to get a different perspective on things.

Thanks to Myra and Neil some old photos have been added to the archive section.
