Last month’s walk: Beinn a’ Chochuill and Beinn Eunaich.
Walkers: Alan, Myra, David and Di.
Another great and thoroughly enjoyable trip with superb weather for the second month in a row. Sunshine almost all day long. Cold when in the wind but warm when out of it. Still plenty of snow on north facing slopes but nothing of any consequence on our route. We also had magnificent views across to the Cruachan ridge for most of the day. (See the photos on the website).
This wasn’t a difficult walk and we managed to keep to the book time for the most part. We stuck to the standard route of parking at Castles farm and walking up the land rover track before following the broad ridge up to the summit of Beinn a’ Chochuill. Lunch followed before we walked along the ridge, down to the bealach and up to Beinn Eunaich. We then descended by Beinn Eunaich’s south ridge before picking up the track again that took us back to the car. (The final decent to get back on to the track was very very steep in places).
We managed to stop at the ‘Green Welly Stop’ on the way up but just missed it on the way back as it shuts at 5.30pm so had a cuppa in the hotel next door and the usual chippy stop in Calendar. I think that we all got home at about 8.30/8.45ish after another good day in the hills
Also a wee report from Di
BEMAC April
It was difficult to believe that we got yet another sunny and clear day for Beinn a’ Chochuill and Beinn Eunaich. Just enough snow on the tops to add to the views, but not so much as we had in March for Beinn Heasgarnich which had made the uphill on that day a bit of a plod. The stiff climb to the summit of Beinn a’ Chochuill was enlivened by a fine repertoire of jokes and stories, and then we were rewarded on the top by fantastic views in all directions but particularly towards Cruachan.
Beinn Eunaich was the second Munro of the day, again with fine views. The steep grassy descent gave us excellent views of the route for the Dalmally horse shoe, which looks like a very attractive outing for another day. The descent was also quite a test for the legs and knees and left me feeling the after effects for a couple of days afterwards!
Finally the professional tea drinkers and chip scoffers descended on Tyndrum and then Callander before arriving home after another good day out on the hill.
This month’s walk: Sunday 18th May 2008
This month’s walk will be part of the annual ‘Myra and Terri Rollercoaster’ except Terri isn’t coming this year. Saturday night to Wednesday morning will be based in a converted railway carriage in Rogart so the club walk will be what ever everybody wants to do in that area. The Munros are Ben Kilbreck or Ben Hope, Corbetts, Ben Hee, Ben Loyal, Canisp plus others and some Grahams as well. Wednesday to Friday will be a back pack through Strath Mulzie and Glen Achall to Ullapool with two nights camping/bothying and an assault on remote Munro Seana Bhraigh. Contact Myra for full details.
Other stuff:
There has been one (sensible) suggestion for a club motto. Harry suggested “Up for it” which translates into “Suas air a thon” in Gaelic. I have now incorporated the motto into the logo at the top of the page and also on the website.
The website is now up and running www.bemac.org Anybody who wants walk photos posted please either e mail them to me or send prints and I will scan them. Perhaps different people might like to write the walk report from time to time to get a different perspective on things.
