Last month’s walks: Beinn Bhuidhe
Attendees: Myra, David, Alan, Di, Jimmy and Harry
What a day we had. Wall to wall sunshine and warm enough for shirt sleeves all day. Five went in Jimmy’s car and we met Harry there. We opted to deviate from the standard Munro book route and take the left fork in the track just past the quarry which gave us a slightly shorter and less steep ascent of the Munro. We also got some height a good bit quicker and consequently had the views a bit quicker too.
After lounging about at the summit for a while in the warm sunshine, we came down by the standard book route and unanimously agreed that we wouldn’t have wanted to have gone up by that route, far too steep a climb for our old legs!
I’ve heard this hill described as a boring lump but would totally disagree with that description as we had a great day out. Quite a long one though. About 8 hours walking which meant that we didn’t get home until after 10.
This month’s walk: Sunday 17th May
Beinn Achaladair and Beinn a’Chreachain. These two are part of the Bridge of Orchy group and are accessed from Achallader farm which is a couple of miles past Bridge of Orchy. OS map no 50. According to the Munro book it’s 3hrs 10 mins to the first one then another hour to the second so shouldn’t take any longer than last month. 6.00am start once again. Names please by Thursday 14th May to allow time to arrange cars etc.
June:
Myra is planning her annual rollercoaster for the first week in June this year. Activities will include a bit of island hopping, backpacking down through Jura taking in some or all of ‘the Paps’ then Glencoe at the end of the week where there are Munros, Corbetts and Grahams to bag. See Myra about this one.
Other stuff:
The website is now up and running www.bemac.org Anybody who wants walk photos posted please either e mail them to me or send prints and I will scan them. Perhaps different people might like to write the walk report from time to time to get a different perspective on things.
