Last month’s walk: Ben More and Stob Binnein
Walkers: Alan, Harry, Bob, Di and Myra
Firstly, a warm welcome to new member Bob Cockburn.
We had another mixed day on the hill, wind, rain, low cloud, dry for long spells but not much sun. Ben More really is an unrelenting slog of 3500ft straight from the car. The book says 2h 30mins and we did it in 2h 45mins including stops so did well enough by our standards. We got a few views during the day, the best of which was down Loch Tay away over to the east as we were dropping down to the bealach on the way to Stob Binnein. Our modus operandi has been changed on the way back home as we opted to ‘sit in’ in the chipper in Calendar and have a cup of tea with our fish supper – much better really!
On a personal note, Ben More was the hill where I really questioned my sanity. We were about ¾ of the way up, it was raining hard, the wind was making it horizontal and my legs were sore when I thought, why the hell am I doing this? But at the time of writing I’ve got the map out for the next one and am back to normal, beyond redemption really!
Alan.
This month’s walk: Sat/Sun 27th /28th September 2008
At the time of writing 5 members, Alan, Neil, Harry, Myra and Di, are going to Kintail to bag the 5 sisters on Saturday and possibly A’Ghlas-bheinn on Sunday. We are booked into Rattagan YH for Friday and Saturday night and will drive up after work on the Friday. If anybody else wants to come along either let me know asap or feel free to book the YH yourself. At the time of writing there are still a few beds available. Transport will be sorted out nearer the time.
Other stuff:
The website is now up and running www.bemac.org Anybody who wants walk photos posted please either e mail them to me or send prints and I will scan them. Perhaps different people might like to write the walk report from time to time to get a different perspective on things.
