Last month’s walks:      The Cheviot

Attendees: Graham, Myra, Jimmy, Alan, David, Rob, John and Di

We all headed for Sourhope to find that a new walkers car park has been made about ½ a mile before the road end so you don’t park right at the road end any more and more importantly the toilet has also been taken away.

We all started off along the track then 6 of us set off up Auchope Rig and Myra and Jimmy opted for a low level walk with Jimmy’s dog and carried on round the track. We had the usual food stop in the refuge hut where all sorts of strange sounds got ‘Bluetoothed’ (?) between Graham’s, John’s, David’s and Rob’s mobile phones.

Next it was up to Auchope Cairn and the walk along the duck boards then the flag stones to the summit. It was freezing cold and the ground had several layers of frost and possibly a dusting of snow and was at times easier to walk on the frozen boggy ground than on the ice covered boards and flag stones.

Anyway it was a nice we wander in between Christmas and New Year.

This month’s walk:   Sunday 18th  January

The Corbett Broad Law shall be the target for this month. There are also a few Donalds close by that can be included if the weathers good enough or we feel like it. OS map no 72. There is apparently room to park a couple of cars next to the Megget Stone so we will aim for that as the starting point (452m).

Please let me know if you want to go by Thursday 15th December to allow time to organise cars.

I don’t know about anybody else but I’m itching to get back to Munros again, perhaps next month depending on the weather and snow conditions.

Other stuff:

I should really make up a walk schedule for 2009. If anybody has any requests please let me know and I’ll do my best to include them.

The website is now up and running www.bemac.org   Anybody who wants walk photos posted please either e mail them to me or send prints and I will scan them. Perhaps different people might like to write the walk report from time to time to get a different perspective on things.
